Persian language and culture of Iran 3600-7-IR1-JKP(Z)
An academic practical Persian course on basic level is focused on the Persian phonology with special stress on sound system and pronunciation. Extensive use of drills and other exercises will be essential. Speaking automatically and expressing oneself in writing in a rather simple way and developing various communication skills including listening and comprehension, speaking, reading and writing with regard to general topics and vocabulary would be the main teaching goal. Also various kinds of expression according to the given situation, including both giving and receiving information (making questions), defining tasks and targets, giving simple descriptions both static (things, people, environment) and dynamic (actions, states and situations) are essential. Some handwriting and calligraphy tips in order to enable students to write Persian in a proper way should be included in the agenda.

Learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
- has extensive knowledge of Persian language (its structure, history, script) in accordance with the program;
- is aware of the complex nature of Persian language, its place and significance in the cultural and historical context of Iran and Afghanistan;
- is aware of the linguistic variety and its influence on the cultural and political situation of the world;
- has rudimentary knowledge of translation rules from Persian language into Polish.
Skills:
- can read, analyze and interpret Persian literary texts of low degree of difficulty (poetry and prose) and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) and appropriately place them in their cultural context;
- has a good command of Persian language at the level depending on specialty;
- can translate simple literary texts and writings from Persian language into Polish;
- can use the script of Persian language and the necessary tools to learn and analyze it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.);
- can use electronic and internet tools both in Polish and in elementary level Persian languages;
Social competences:
- understands the need to learn all one’s life;
- can cooperate and work in a group as well as forge relationships and build social relations;
- can establish relations and cooperate with representatives of other cultures;
- is aware of significance the Iranian culture has for the culture of the world;
Assessment criteria

continuous assessment (current preparation for classes)
oral examination
attendence control (it is possible to have 4 unexcused per semester)
Ms. Pytkowska-Jakimczyk's classes
- attendance control (student is eligible for 4 unexcused absences, any further absence results in not qualifying for the final examination).
- continuous assessment (homeworks, class activity, current preparation for classes)
- written exam at the end of the semester.
Ms. Hehiye Yazdan Panah classes:
- attendance control (student is eligible for 4 unexcused absences, any further absence results in not qualifying for the final examination).
- continuous assessment (homeworks, class activity, current preparation for classes)
- possible oral assessment.
At the end of the semester each teacher grade their class separately and inform student (through the USOS web mail) what grade he/she has obtained.
Final grade is the arithmetical mean of all Persian Language classes.
Bibliography
Selection of literature and textbooks depends on the lecturers conducting classes in a given semester.
