(in Polish) Translatoryka 3600-7-IN5-T(Z)

The seminar aims to familiarise students with the fundamentals of contemporary translation studies, including its theories, methods, and research tools, with a focus on the linguistic and cultural characteristics of South Asia. Participants will explore these topics by reading, analysing, and translating texts of varying difficulty, using appropriately selected translation strategies.

Term 2026Z:

Danuta Stasik (30 hrs, Thursday, 13.13–14.45)
Introduction to the theory and practice of translation – reading and analysing texts on this topic in Polish and English.
Students prepare the assigned text for class on their own and participate in a group discussion/group reading with all class participants under the teacher's guidance. The teacher applies elements of an informative lecture, primarily on translation methods and tools as well as the sociocultural context, provides additional explanations, initiates discussion among the students, and summarises it.

Prerequisites (description)

The student should have knowledge of an Indian language I (Bengali/Hindi/Sanskrit/Tamil), its literature, and the socio-cultural issues of India, to the extent specified in the curriculum of the Oriental studies-Indian studies course, for those who have completed the first year of full-time study in the second cycle.
