An outline of the history of Sanskrit literature from the beginnings of its development (c. 1500 B.C.) till its Epic period – the presentation of the genres and the most important works of the Vedic period (samhitas, brahmanas, aranyakas, upanisads) and the Epic period (Mahabharata, Ramayana, puranas) in their historical and socio-cultural context.
