Practical study of the first Indian language (Bengali / Hindi / Sanskrit / Tamil) from the intermediate to advanced level, starting from learning the script and the rules of its transliteration/transcription to the knowledge of language at a basic level.
Learning modern languages (Bengali / Hindi / Tamil) is based primarily on carefully selected short texts and dialogues, which allow not only to learn the language, but also to acquaint students with culture, daily life and customs of India and other countries of South Asia. In the case of Sanskrit the study is based on a reading of simple original and prepared texts and their recitation.

Assessment criteria
- continuous preparation for the class and active participation during classes
- term assessment prepared jointly by all block instructors
- attendance control. Maximum three classes missed per semester without sick leave or other justification, more absences will result in inadmissibility for credit.
