The aim of this course is to present the students with the most up-to-date areas of research in Modern Hebrew, often in its spoken version, and, more generally, with Semitic linguistics. The problems of corpus analysis and its methodologies are discussed, along with language contact issues and selected readings in comparative Semitic studies.

The class covers broad issues related to Hebrew linguistics and literary studies (classical and modern), translation theory and the practical sides of the Hebrew translator's work, as well as the cultural context of the production of the translated texts and its influence on the translation process. |
