Specialisation course 3600-7-HE4-PS1.1
Academic year 2024/2025: description below.
Academic year 2023/2024:
The course is intended to deepen the knowledge defined by the Hebrew Studies major, as well as to indicate how it can be applied in practice. The class focuses largely on widely understood Hebrew linguistics and literary theory, translation theories and cultural aspects of translation, as well as practical aspects of a translator’s work. Most of the class will be dedicated to analyzing and translating literary texts (at least one text of prose and one text of poetry), supported by elements of translation theories, which is intended to provide the students with extended knowledge on the issues considered. Within the practice part students will be asked to translate fragments of Hebrew literary texts (into Polish). Attempts will be made at editing texts by fellow students. The number and kind of texts will be dependent on students’ fluency in the language as well as their pace of work. A more detailed agenda is designed by the teacher conducting the class.
