Reading hebrew texts 3600-7-HE3-LTH1
This course is designed for third-year Hebrew studies students. These students already have a basic understanding of Hebrew grammar and an extensive vocabulary. The course aims to gradually deepen their understanding of unadapted Hebrew texts. Most readings involve reading articles from the daily newspaper "Haaretz." Students are expected to read the text with understanding, engage in a discussion, and produce written contributions. By the end of the course, students' vocabulary has significantly expanded; their ability to understand texts and discuss a variety of topics has also significantly improved. The course also familiarizes students with a variety of issues related to the State of Israel and Hebrew culture.
Before each class, students will receive an article from "Ha-aretz" (or another Hebrew-language newspaper) or choose one themselves. They will be required to read it at home. It will then be read in class for comprehension. The article will then be discussed. The articles will address various topics related to Israeli culture, politics, and society. The course should address current issues.
If students make good progress in their language skills, it will be possible in the second semester to enrich the sources with Hebrew journals such as "Hazman Haze," "Teoria uvikoret," "Alakhson," "Ot," "Hamusakh," "Mikan" and more.
