Reading hebrew texts 3600-7-HE2-LTH(L)
Literature for children is one of the most important basic ground of any cultural group. What the parents read for their children and latter, what they read themselves, shape their cultural, social, and literary horizon, and also their foundation for their associations, language, jokes, longing, collective memory, and common culture. In order to get acquainted truly and deeply with any culture one should be familiar with its children’s literature. The goal of this course is to make the students familiar with that important part of the Israeli cultural identity. During the academic year the most important canon of Hebrew children’s literature will be read and discussed in class. Each class will be dedicated to one book from the canon of this literature. We will start with the easier texts for very young children, which are also more easy concerning the level of language, and by the end of the academic year we will read books for older children and perhaps also for adolescents.
