Reading arabic texts 3600-7-AR3-LTA(L)
The course focuses on reading and translation of the texts representing various genres and themes in the classical and modern Arabic literature (poetry and prose, theological and philosophical literature, historiography, travelogues, essays and research in the field of humanities), as well as the Arabic media. Moreover, the students practice a comprehensive contextual analysis and interpretation of the texts, that takes into account their significance for the contemporary Arabic culture.

Alumnus/alumna:
K_W06: has detailed and organized knowledge of the history of Arab countries
K_W07: has detailed and organized knowledge of philosophy and religion of Arab countries
K_W12: has extensive knowledge of the Arabic language (its/their structure, history, script)
K_W13: is aware of the complex nature of Arabic, its place and significance in the cultural and historical context of Arab countries
K_W15: has a rudimentary knowledge of translation rules from Arabic into Polish
K_W16: demonstrates a basic grasp of the contemporary cultural life of Arab countries
K_U06: can read, analyze and interpret literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) and appropriately place them in their cultural context
K_U07: can compare and perceive interrelations between chosen literary texts and other works of the culture of Arab countries (film, press, social writing) and the issues within the scope of tradition and modern times
K_U12: has a good command of Arabic at the B2 level
K_U13: can analyze and interpret source texts in Arabic
K_U14: can translate literary texts and writings from Arabic into Polish
K_U15: can interpret key terms from a culture of Arab countries through linguistic/philological analysis
K_U16: can fluently use the Arabic script and the necessary tools to learn and analyze it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, databases, etc.)
K_U24: can use electronic and internet tools both in Polish and Arabic
K_K02: is prepared to cooperate and work in a group as well as forge relationships and build social relations
K_K03: is prepared to establish relations and cooperate with representatives of other cultures
Assessment criteria
Attendance control. Max. two absences (4 hours) are allowed in a semester. In case of absence due to illness, a medical certificate should be submitted within seven working days from the last day of the leave specified in the certificate.
Continuous assessment of diligence
