Arabic Language and Culture 3600-7-AR3-JKA(L)
The course aims to develop the productive and receptive skills in Modern Standard Arabic, particularly the knowledge of tenses and conditional sentences, compound sentences, phraseological expressions and advanced vocabulary, as well as typical figures of speech. Examples of contemporary Arabic media and literature are used as an illustration for grammar and lexical issues. The skills developed during the course will enable students to communicate in Arabic when travelling throughout the Arab World as well as in their professional career.

Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment (active participation in classes, homework etc.), as well as written and oral exams.
The final grade consists of continuous assessment (50%), as well as the results of the written exam (35%) and oral exam (15%). A student takes an oral exam after passing a written one.
The final grade is calculated as a mean of the grades given by the individual instructors, weighted proportionally to the number of hours taught in the semester. To pass the course, a student must receive a passing grade (at least 60% of points) from each instructor.
Attendance monitoring: In case of absence due to illness, a medical certificate justifying the absence must be submitted within seven working days from the end of the sick leave.
The total number of excused and unexcused absences allowing students to take the exam is 30%.
