Proseminar 3600-7-AR2-P1
The aim of the course is to:
1. initiate students into the basic rules of research methodology, first of all methods of searching for, selecting and critical analysis of primary and secondary sources, presenting its results orally and in writing, as well as transcription.
2. outline the history of Arabic and Islamic studies in Poland and abroad and characterize the main research areas and topics
3. acquaint students with the typical problems of transcultural studies

Knowledge - a student:
knows the state of research in chosen aspects pertaining to Arab countries K_W17

Skills - a student:

has a good command of a foreign language at least at the B2 level K_U11
fluently use the Arabic script and the necessary tools to learn and analyze it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.) K_U16
has the necessary skills to prepare seminar papers: can select and find sources and analyses in Arabic, knows the methodology of writing seminar papers K_U18
can use basic knowledge in the scope of methodology of cultural research in a seminar paper K_U19
choose and formulate a subject of a BA thesis, select and find sources in Arabic, make references to basic theoretical approaches K_U20
has a skill in presenting detailed aspects within the scope of cultural issues of Arab countries in Polish and in Arabic taking into consideration the intellectual tradition of Arab countries K_U21
has a skill at formulating own opinions and conclusions in writing and in speech both in Polish and Arabic K_U22

can use electronic and internet tools both in Polish and Arabic K_U24
can communicate with specialists in the fields of academic research and in academic disciplines pertinent to the Oriental Studies – Arabic Studies using contemporary IT technology K_U25

Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment, essays, presentations.
Attendance control - a student can be absent max. twice during the semester; in the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate.
Delivering the written assignments in time is mandatory.
