Proseminar 3600-7-AR2-P1
The aim of the classes is to:
- introduce students to the basics of academic research methodology, primarily to the methods of searching, selecting and critically analysing sources and scientific studies, presenting its results in oral and written form
- familiarise students with the stages of preparing a paper (choosing a topic, searching for sources, state of research, preparing an outline, constructing a bibliography, correctly preparing footnotes and citations)
- familiarise students with problems resulting from the specificity of intercultural and postcolonial research
- sensitise students to the problem of plagiarism

Learning outcomes
Knowledge - the student knows and understands:
the state of research in the scope of selected issues of the countries of the region
basic concepts and principles in the scope of intellectual property protection and copyright
Skills - the student is able to:
search, analyze, evaluate and use information from various sources
use a foreign language at least at B2 level
prepare seminar papers: is able to select and find sources and studies, knows the technique of writing seminar papers
apply basic knowledge of the methodology of cultural research in the seminar paper
select and formulate a topic for a bachelor's thesis, select and find sources and refer to basic theoretical approaches
present detailed issues in the scope of cultural issues of the countries of the region and in Polish, taking into account the intellectual tradition of the countries of the region
has the ability to formulate their own opinions and conclusions in Polish in speech and writing
argue skillfully and substantively using the views of other authors
use electronic and Internet tools
communicate with specialists in the scope of fields of science and scientific disciplines relevant to in the field of oriental studies using modern computer techniques
independently acquire knowledge and develop research skills following the guidance of a research supervisor
Social competences - the student is ready to:
learn throughout life
appropriately define goals and methods of achieving them in the field of scientific, professional and social activities
is ready to initiate activities for the public interest and to think and act in an entrepreneurial manner
Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment, essays, presentations.
Attendance control - a student can be absent max. twice during the semester; in the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate.
To pass the course, it is necessary to submit all written assignments and present papers on time.
