Arabic Language and Culture 1.1 3600-7-AR1-JiKA1.1
Practical classes involving the study of Modern Standard Arabic at a basic level. Particular emphasis is placed on correct pronunciation as well as the principles of orthography and calligraphy, i.e. reading of various Arabic scripts and calligraphical compositions. During the classes, a variety of materials are used to support the development of language skills in vocabulary and syntax (listening comprehension, reading, writing, and conversation), while also familiarizing students with the culture, customs, and everyday life of Arab countries, among others through learning popular phrases and expressions.

K_W07: The student knows and understands, at a basic level, the structure of the Arabic language, its grammar, history, and writing system, as well as its significance in the context of the culture and history of the Arab world.
K_W08: The student knows and understands the basic principles of translation from Arabic into Polish.
K_U09: The student is able to translate simple texts from Arabic into Polish.
K_U10: The student is able, at a basic level, to use the Arabic writing system (applying the rules of standard orthography) and the tools used for its learning and analysis (traditional and electronic dictionaries).
K_U13: The student is able to present basic issues related to the cultural context of the Arab world in Arabic, taking into account the linguistic traditions of the region.
K_U17: The student is able to cooperate and work in a group and, at a basic level in Arabic, establish contacts with representatives of different cultures, especially Arab culture, as well as conduct intercultural dialogue.
K_K04: The student is prepared to engage in activities aimed at sharing and promoting the cultural and linguistic heritage of the Arab world.
Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment, written tests, final written assessments, final oral assessments.
Attendance control. Up to 15% of unexcused absences per semester is permitted during the classes of each instructor.
In the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate.
The total number of justified and unjustified absences during each lecturer's classes, allowing for taking an examination, is 30%.
The final grade for the course is the average of the grades given by each instructor (based on written and/or oral assessments), calculated proportionally to the number of hours taught by each instructor during the semester. To pass the course, students must receive a passing grade (at least 60% of the points) from each instructor.
During an exam, test, or quiz, the following actions are strictly prohibited: using notes, phones, smartwatches, headphones, or any other devices that allow access to information; consulting with others; looking at other students' papers; or tampering with exam materials.
If the use of unauthorized aids is detected, the exam or assessment is immediately terminated, and a failing grade is assigned.
The lecturer reserves the right to conduct an additional oral verification in the event of justified doubts regarding the authenticity and independence of the submitted work.
