Arabic Language and Culture 3600-7-AR1-JKA1
The course's objective is to teach the Modern Standard Arabic as a spoken language. Due to its specifics (different alphabet, phonetics, structure, word formation), only the very basics is taught during the 1st semester, i.e. salutations, body parts, geographical names, names of animals, simple dialogues, writing and reading simple texts. The teacher puts emphasis on phonetics, correct pronunciation and writing skills.
Students will:
• have the vocabulary to express themselves in basic situations
• understand and ask simple questions
• be able to read and understand easy literary texts
• have a basic knowledge of the language structure
• use this knowledge in both oral and written communication

Knowledge - a student knows and understands:

properly function in the linguistic and cultural environment of Arab countries K_U17

Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment, written tests, final written and oral assessment
Attendance control (max 10% of excused absences); in the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate.
The total number of excused and unexcused absences allowing for taking an examination is 30%.
