Modern Methods of academic research-lecture(Z) 3600-7-AFS4-MMAR(Z)
Introduction to the methodology of research in the field of linguistics, literary studies, history and cultural studies with a focus on the African continent.
The course provides students with practical knowledge and the ability to use various methods to conduct scientific research and to relate them to
specific examples, as well as the skills of practical analysis, interpretation and evaluation of phenomena relating to sub-Saharan Africa.
The course also covers such topics as writing academic skills, scientific communication and dissemination of research results

Knowledge:
- the student has in-depth detailed knowledge (including terminology, theory and methodology) on the methodology of research on contemporary Africa
- has detailed knowledge of the state of research in the field of selected issues related to contemporary Africa
Skills:
- the student is able to search, analyze, evaluate and use information with the use of various sources and formulate on their basis critical judgments about contemporary Africa
- can use knowledge of African studies to expand knowledge in the field of humanities
Social competence:
- is open to new ideas and trends as well as cultural diversity
- is aware of the differences resulting from cultural diversity
Assessment criteria
Attendance control - a student can be absent max. twice during the semester; in the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate.
Partial evaluation works, final written exam.
