Learning outcomes
Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands
* local scientific tradition (methods of analysis, interpretation and evaluation) in the countries of sub-Saharan Africa, as well as the tradition and methods of African research in Poland and in the world
* mainstream contemporary cultural life in sub-Saharan Africa
Skills: the graduate is able to
* read, analyze and interpret selected texts of African cultures (films, commercials, journalistic texts, literary works) correctly placing them in the regional context
* analyze and evaluate the importance of cultural influence on the activities of institutions, the emergence of armed conflicts, the existence of customs, rituals and symbols
Social competencies: the graduate is ready to
* establish contacts and cooperate with representatives of different cultures
* critically evaluate the content resulting from cultural and linguistic diversity and its influence on the shaping of social and political attitudes and economic processes,
* ctively work towards mutual understanding and effective intercultural communication
Assessment criteria
The final examination will be oral. The students are expected to read two novels and two critical texts / essays / academic articles by African authors which will be discussed during the exam. The choice of the texts must be consulted with the teacher. Additionally, they should know the contents of the lectures.
