Reading Hausa texts 3600-7-AF5-TZH(L)
The course is devoted to the reading and analysing of chosen Hausa texts, as well as to their translation into Polish. The course aims at developing the students' language skills as well as to deepen their knowledge of Hausa culture and literature.

Having completed the course student:
- has extended knowledge of particular problems pertaining to the cultures of Africa within the scope of culture and literature in a comparative perspective (K_W02)
- has extended knowledge of particular problems pertaining to the culture and literature of northern Nigeria (K_W03)
- has extended and deepened knowledge of the Hausa language (K_W04)
- has detailed knowledge pertaining to the state of research on Hausa texts as well as in-depth knowledge of research centres in Poland and all over the world (K_W05)
- knows and understands the local academic tradition (methods of analysis, interpretation and evaluation) of northern Nigeria (K_W07)
- demonstrates good knowledge of contemporary cultural life in northern Nigeria (K_W08)
- has genuine knowledge of rules of communication, writing, reading in Hausa language (K_W09)
- can indicate sources of cultural differences between different parts of West Africa, also on the basis of source materials (K_U02)
- can use the terminology from the domain of culture, philosophy and religion of northern Nigeria to analyze and interpret religious phenomena, ethical motives and social behavior, as well as cultural differences (K_U06)
- can read, analyze and interpret advanced literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) of northern Nigeria and appropriately place them in their cultural context (K_U08)
- can compare and thoroughly analyze interrelations between selected literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) of northern Nigeria, and the issues of tradition and modernity (K_U09)
- can carry out a critical analysis and interpretation of different products of Hausa culture appropriate to a selected tradition, theory and research schools within the scope of studies on literature and culture employing unique attitude of Oriental studies (K_U10)
- can evaluate, select and describe most important products of contemporary Hausa culture (K_U12)
- can select and translate into Polish most valuable literary works/writings of northern Nigeria (K_U13)
- has a good command of Hausa language at least at the B1 level (K_U15)
- can select and find sources for MA thesis in Hausa language, refer to certain theories and other sources (K_U17)
- can actively cooperate and work on text analysis in a group as well as forge relationships and build social relations (K_K02)
- has awareness of the differences stemming from cultural and linguistic variety and their influence on shaping social and political attitudes as well as economic processes (K_K06)
- understands and appreciates the value of tradition and cultural heritage of one’s own country and of northern Nigeria (K_K08)
