Grammar of the African language 3600-7-AF3-GJA(Z)
The classes are aimed at improving pronunciation, writing in accordance with the rules of spelling, and speaking at a basic level, as well as practicing the use of basic grammatical structures which are necessary to make correct sentences in Hausa. The curriculum is based on the textbook for learning the language (R.Cowan & R.Schuh "Spoken Hausa", New York , 1976) with modifications such as updating information on the communicative aspects of the language and adapting the content to the didactic needs of Polish students. Each thematic unit of the course (25 in total, delivered over 2 years) consists of the following parts:
- phonetic exercises
- situational dialogue embedded in a cultural context
- new vocabulary
- grammar explanations
- practical grammar exercises (oral and written).

Knowledge

(K_W13) is aware of the complex nature of Hausa, its place and significance in the cultural and historical context of West Africa
(K_W14) is aware of the linguistic variety and its influence on the cultural and political situation of the world
K_W15 has rudimentary knowledge of translation rules from Hausa language into Polish
Skills:
K_U13, can analyze and interpret source texts in Hausa language
K_U14, can translate literary texts and writings from Hausa language into Polish
K_U15, can interpret key terms from the Hausa culture through linguistic analysis
K_U16, can fluently use the script of the chosen African language and the necessary tools to learn and analyze it (traditional and
electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.)
K_U17 can properly function in the linguistic and cultural environment of West Africa
Social competence
K_K04, can set appropriate goals and ways to achieve them in the context of academic, professional and social activity
K_K08 acts in aid of sharing and promoting cultural and linguistic heritage of African countries
Assessment criteria
1. Final test with open-ended and single-choice questions.
2. Homework - assignments are assessed, as well as linguistic correctness and timely delivery of work. Completion of all assignments is
the first condition for taking the final test.
3. Attendance control - a student can be absent max. three times during the semester; in the case of absence due to illness, the medical certificate excusing this absence should be submitted within seven work days of the last day of the leave specified in the certificate.
Attending the classes is the second condition for taking the final test.
