,The course comprises theoretical description of Modern Standard Literary Arabic and its phonetic features. Essential phonetic and phonological ideas are introduced.
The practice consists of exercises aiming at correct pronunciation of Arabic phonemes, especially those characteristic of the Arabic language, such as interdental, uvular, pharyngeal, laryngeal and emphatic. The students are required to learn a number of texts with typical Arabic phonemes. In the second part elements of sandhi are introduced.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge. Student:
- knows the basic principles of the phonetics and phonology of Arabic,
- knows the basic concepts of phonetics and phonology at the elementary level to the extent necessary for proper speaking in Arabic
Skills. Student:
- recognizes and pronounces phonemes, words and simple sentences in Arabic,
- can pronounce all the Arabic phonemes,
- apples the theoretical knowledge in practice,
- identifies the individual syllables in a word.
Competences. Student:
- understands the need to learn phonetics,
- understands how important mastering the knowledge of the phonetics of the Arabic language is,
- realizes the role the theoretical knowledge of phonetics and phonology of Arabic plays in understanding the differences of language pronunciation in various dialects of Arabic.
