During the course, the students will be prepared for writing their BA theses. They will be given practical instructions concerning the writing process. They will also be assisted in determining the direction of their research, choosing the topic of the thesis, and selecting relevant literature and research methods. Moreover, the students will acquire the ability to use knowledge of literature and culture to independently analyze cultural and literary processes and phenomena.
The lecturer will discuss in detail the rules and requirements associated with writing and submitting a BA thesis and taking the diploma exam at the Department of Chinese Studies. Students will learn how to choose the topics of their theses, determine the scope of research, find appropriate source materials and organize their work to produce theses compliant with academic standards. Correct stucture of academic thesis will be expounded. The problems of proper register and necessary editorial work in academic writing will be addressed. The topics chosen by the participants of the course will be discussed in detail. Every student is obliged to report new developments in their research and writing process on a constant basis. The first complete draft of the thesis should be submitted by the end of April.

K_U16 - fluently use the classical Chinese and the necessary tools to learn and analyze it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.);

K_U18 - has the necessary skills to prepare seminar papers: can select and find sources and analyses in Chinese, knows the methodology of writing seminar papers;
K_U19 - can use basic knowledge in the scope of methodology of cultural research in a seminar paper;
K_U20 - choose and formulate a subject of a BA thesis, select and find sources in Chinese, make references to basic theoretical approaches;
K_U21 - has a skill at formulating own opinions and conclusions in writing and in speech both in Polish and Chinese;
K_U22 - has a skill in presenting detailed aspects within the scope of cultural issues of China in Polish and in Chinese taking into consideration the intellectual tradition of China;
K_U23 - has the ability of substantive argumentation with the use of other authors’ views;
K_U24 - use electronic and internet tools both in Polish and Chinese;
K_U25 - communicate with specialists in the fields of academic research and in academic disciplines pertinent to the Oriental Studies – Sinology using contemporary IT technology;

Assessment criteria
Presence in class is mandatory. Credit for the first semester can be obtained after submitting the topic, a detailed outline and abstract of the thesis. Credit for the summer semester is granted after submitting the final version of the thesis.
