The subject comprises questions of transcription of the Chinese language, and construction of the Chinese characters. Emphasis is put on learning radicals of the Chinese script, and remembering the most frequently used characters.

Student is able to differenciate the types of construction of the Chinese characters, can point out and name the elements of complex characters, is able to read, write and understand at least one thousand most frequently used characters, can use the pinyin transcription.
Assessment criteria
Credit with a grade, based on active participation in the classes, doing homework, and grades for tests.
