Korean language and culture 3600-19-KOW3-JiKK6
Classes as part of the university's B2 level of practical Korean language course.
Classes focus mainly on the intensive expansion of the vocabulary and complex syntactic structures. Consolidating automatic speech and the ability to express thoughts in writing at the level of complex statements, with an emphasis on the use of phraseology (idioms and proverbs).
Consolidating communication skills in the field of listening comprehension and speaking, taking into account the vocabulary characteristic of various aspects of social life and selected issues of the humanities, with particular emphasis on the specificity of Korea. Introduction of modern texts of specialized press language, journalism, non-fiction (not very difficult).
Developing the ability to formulate complex static descriptions (objects, people, surroundings) and dynamic descriptions (activities, states and situations). Further learning colloquial language and polite phrases at a higher level of complexity.

After completing the course student:
KNOWLEDGE:
- has extensive knowledge of Korean language (its structure, history, script) [K_W12];
- is aware of the complex nature of Korean language, its place and significance in the cultural and historical context of Korean Peninsula and Asia [K_W13];
- is aware of the linguistic variety and its influence on the cultural and political situation of the world [K_W14];
- has detailed knowledge of translation rules from Korean into Polish [K_W15].
SKILLS:
- can read, analyze and interpret literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) of Korea and appropriately place them in their cultural context [K_U06];
- can use the knowledge of socio-cultural issues of Korea in typical professional situations [K_U09];
- has a good command of Korean at the level B2 [K_U12];
- can analyze and interpret source texts in Korean language [K_U13];
- can translate literary texts and writings from Korean language into Polish [K_U14];
- potrafi interpretować kluczowe pojęcia kultury Korei poprzez analizę językową/ filologiczną [K_U15];
- can fluently use the script of Korean language and the necessary tools to learn and analyze it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.) [K_U16];
- can properly function in the linguistic and cultural environment of Korea [K_U17];
- has a skill in presenting detailed aspects within the scope of cultural issues of Korea in Korean language taking into consideration the intellectual tradition of the region [K_U21];
- has a skill at formulating own opinions and conclusions in writing and in speech both in Polish and in Korean language [K_U22];
- can use electronic and internet tools both in Polish and in Korean language [K_U24].

- understands the need to learn all one’s life [K_K01];
- can cooperate and work in a group as well as forge relationships and build social relations [K_K02];
- can establish relations and cooperate with representatives of other cultures [K_K03];
- has awareness of the cultural distinctness and its religious, philosophical, traditional and historical roots and its significance for understanding modern world [K_K05];

Assessment criteria
The evaluation will take into account:
- attendance
- ongoing preparation for classes and active participation in classes
- written tests carried out regularly during the semester
- possible final written exam
- final oral exam
