Continuation of the study of standard Japanese at the second year level of Japanese Studies. Practice in the practical application of grammar rules learnt in the lecture on descriptive grammar of modern Japanese. Practice in reading comprehension, listening comprehension, oral expression. Presentation of situation in which specific expressions are used, learning new words and constructions. Emphasis is placed on developing comprehension and language processing skills.
The subject is divided into three segments:
I. Classes including practising the construction of complex sentences, explaining the use of idiomatic expressions (mainly related to body parts), onomatopoeia and mimetic expressions, expressions denoting choice, adverbial and other expressions.
II. Conversations, based on film material, including Japanese TV series. The following forms of class work are provided:
Preparations containing more difficult vocabulary and topics are distributed before each class. Students are required to check their meaning on their own. The main part of the class is checking new vocabulary appearing in films, TV series, listening to dialogues with understanding, finding new words and expressions. The student works on vocabulary, understanding the story presented. The class includes a conversation about the content presented.

Knowledge:
- has a basic knowledge of the Japanese language (its structure, grammar, history, writing) [K_W12].
- is aware of the complex nature of the Japanese language, its place and importance in the context of Japanese culture and history [K_W13].
- is aware of linguistic diversity and its impact on the cultural and political situation of the world [K_W14].
- has a basic knowledge of the principles of translation from Japanese into Polish [K_W15].
Skills:
- is able to read, analyse and interpret literary texts and/or other works of Japanese cultural creation (film, press, writing of a
social character), correctly placing them in a cultural context [K_U06].
- is able to apply knowledge of socio-cultural issues in typical professional situations [K_U09].
- is able to use Japanese language at B1 level [K_U12].
- is able to analyse and interpret source texts in Japanese [K_U13].
- is able to translate literary/literary texts from Japanese into Polish [K_U14].
- is able to interpret key concepts of Japanese culture through linguistic/philological analysis [K_U15].
- is able to use the Japanese writing system and tools for its study and analysis (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, language corpora, databases, etc.) [K_U16].
- is able to function correctly in the linguistic and cultural environment of Japan [K_U17].
- has the ability to present in Polish or a foreign language specific issues concerning the cultural problems of Japan, taking into account the intellectual tradition of Japan [K_U21].
- has the ability to formulate in writing and orally his/her own opinions and conclusions in Polish and Japanese at B1 level [K_U22].
- is able to use electronic and Internet tools in Polish and Japanese [K_U24].

Assessment criteria
- attendance in class (2 unexcused absences per semester allowed)
- continuous evaluation (current preparation for classes and activity)
- possible mid-semester oral or written control tests
- final written assessment
