Japanese conversation 3 3600-19-JAW2-JiKJK3
This course is a continuation of the study of standard Japanese at the second year level of Japanese Studies. It involves the practical application of grammar rules learned in the lecture on descriptive grammar of modern Japanese. It also includes practice in reading comprehension, listening comprehension, oral expression, and the presentation of situations in which specific expressions are used, learning new words and constructions. The emphasis is on developing language comprehension and processing skills.
The subject is divided into three segments:
I. Classes will include the construction of compound sentences, the explanation of idiomatic expressions (mainly related to body parts), onomatopoeia and mimetic expressions, expressions denoting choice, adverbial and other expressions.
II. Conversations will be based on film material, including Japanese TV series. The following forms of class work are proposed:
- Exercises to improve listening comprehension, with elements of audiovisual translation (summarising episodes, characterisation of characters, translation of individual statements; use of the visual nature of video to understand the context of statements),
- Discussion of topics from everyday life and current social issues raised by the series, The classes are conducted in a language laboratory setting, with the primary objective of enhancing listening comprehension abilities and correcting pronunciation. Additionally, the classes aim to reinforce lexical and grammatical knowledge, facilitate the formulation of statements and conversations in Japanese, and provide an environment conducive to the development of these skills.
III. Classes in a language laboratory setting aimed primarily at improving listening comprehension skills and correct pronunciation, in addition to consolidating lexical and grammatical material and stimulating speech and conversation in Japanese.
