Basic language classes, including practicing constructing simple and complex sentences and developing vocabulary. Basic topics include nominative, verb, and adjective judgment. Constructions of 'giving and receiving'. The formation and use of the -te form. Citation constructions (to iu, to omou). Adjectival sentences. Forms of wish and necessity (-tai, hoshii). The potential mode and conditional mode. Encouragement and volitional forms, expressions of command and prohibition.

Knowledge: the graduate:
K_W12 has a comprehensive knowledge of the Japanese language (its structure, grammar, history, and writing).
K_W13 is aware of the complex nature of the Japanese language, its place, and its significance in the context of Japanese culture and history.
K_W14 is aware of linguistic diversity and its impact on the cultural and political situation of the world.
K_W15 has basic knowledge of the principles of translation from Japanese into Polish.
Abilities: graduate
K_U06 can read, analyze, and interpret literary texts and other works of Japanese culture (film, press, social writings), correctly placing them in a cultural context on A2 language level.
K_U09 can apply knowledge of socio-cultural issues of Japan in typical professional situations.
K_U12 speaks Japanese at the A2 level.
K_U13 can analyze and interpret source texts in Japanese.
K_U15 can interpret key concepts of Japanese culture through linguistic/philological analysis.
K_U16 can proficiently use the Japanese writing system and tools for its cognition and analysis (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, databases, etc.).
K_U17 can function correctly in the linguistic and cultural environment of Japan.
K_U21 can present specific aspects of the cultural problems of Japan in Polish and foreign languages, taking into account the intellectual tradition of Japan.
K_U22 can formulate speaking and writing his/her own opinions and conclusions in Polish and Japanese.
K_U24 can use electronic and Internet tools in Polish and Japanese.
K_K06 sees the need for intercultural dialogue.
K_K07 is aware of the importance of Japanese culture in world culture.
K_K08 acts to share and promote the cultural and linguistic legacy of Japan.
Assessment criteria
- attendance in class (at lest 50 percent of attendance) ; 3 unexcused absences per semester are allowed; sick leave is also accepted.
- continuous evaluation (ongoing preparation for classes and activities).
- possible mid-semester oral or written control tests.
- final oral and written assessment.
