Data processing: Maxqda in sociological studies 3500-SCC-ADMAX
In qualitative research of web content, it is useful to use specialized software that supports researchers in many key stages of the research process, such as coding, code ordering, and dictionary analysis.
The aim of the course will be to learn in practice how to use MAXQDA software for qualitative analysis of content and visual materials. Participants in the course will learn about the program's most important functions to help in the analysis itself, as well as the various possibilities of applying these functions to the analysis of a range of materials, including interviews, visual materials, press materials, social media content (Instagram, Facebook, etc.). Opportunities for combining analysis of a variety of materials will be presented, as well as limitations in the application of MAXQDA and potential methodological issues, including those related to teamwork. Attendees will learn the application of the program's key functions for conducting step-by-step content and visual analyses. Participants will also become familiar with the quantitative analysis and data visualization tools offered by the program (e.g., code relationships, code clouds, etc.). The skills thus acquired will be transferable to both academic and commercial social research.
As part of the course, students will work at computers and also work at home. Homework assignments (e.g., coding a piece of text, preparing a visualization of materials) will be the basis for passing the course.
