(in Polish) Interakcje symboliczne: strategie, rytuały, emocje 3500-FAKM-SRE
Symbolic interactionism as a perspective and method is oriented towards studying social and cultural processes as communication processes. The aim of the seminar is to show the usefulness of this sociological orientation for research on the creation and change of orders of meanings and rules of social life. The concept of symbolic interaction as an interpretative, communicative and performative interaction will be expounded. The key concept of defining an interactional situation will be discussed. The subject of the seminar is the theory of symbolic interactionism as a research orientation that allows for understanding and explaining socio-cultural processes in which the creation, control and change of social meanings in reciprocal interactions is crucial. Issues related to the negotiation of social meanings, strategies, interaction rituals and emotions will be presented and discussed. Interaction systems of varying degrees of complexity will be analyzed. Dimensions of power and control in social interactions will be shown. Particular emphasis will be placed on the symbolic-interactional nature of emotions. The issues of social labeling, stigmatization and deviance will be addressed. The context for the discussed issues of symbolic interactionism is constituted by the problems of democratic society.

K_U05 is able to lead a debate, proposing topics, arguing the theses and sharing the knowledge with reference to scientific literature in the field of sociology and related disciplines
K_S04 is ready to observe and promote professional ethics, respect for intellectual property and the dignity of persons participating in the research process
Assessment criteria
Participation in a discussion, presentation based on the reading, written work - essay.

Rules for re-sit: presentation of written work in accordance with the standards
Workload: participation in the seminar – 30 hrs.; readings – 40 hrs.; paper and presentation – 10 hrs.; elaboration and presentation of the essay’s problems – 10 hrs.; preparation and presentation of the essay – 30 hrs. Total: 120 hrs.
