European welfare, correctional and aiding systems 3401-PR1-SP-WR-ESOz
The goal of the subject is to introduce a contemporary image of how to treat children and youth that are not socially adapted and how to provide welfare and help with them, among that
- evolution of the contemporary model of the European correctional, welfare and aiding systems
- entities that deal with European social reintegration politics
- selection of global, European and national legislative regulations
- Polish law standards in the matter
- institutional correctional system and preventive treatment in Poland
- welfare and correctional systems in selected European countries
- contemporary European trends and tendencies
In the introduction part there is going to be presented evolution of views on issues connected with welfare and correction of children and youth, to introduce later entities and legislative regulations on global, European and national grounds. To understand these issues more profoundly there will be information on specific solutions used in Poland and selected European countries (Western and Central Europe and Scandinavia) both in institutional and out-of-institutional forms. In the summary part, trends in European correctional and welfare development will be shown, among these, substitute care, how to deal with addicts, the role of a probation officer, new institutional forms or changes in the penitentiary politics.
There will be introduced group work as well as development of computer and multimedia skills, within the above, skills in creating multimedia presentations. During the process of looking for information about European solutions language skills, especially English and German, will be developed.

Knowledge
Having finished the process of learning, based on accumulated knowledge, a student:
• explains the origin and the goal of functioning of the contemporary European correctional, welfare and aiding systems
• describes functioning mechanisms of the contemporary European institutional and out-of-institutional solutions
• analyses the variety of used institutional and out-of-institutional solutions in European countries
• recognizes weak and strong aspects of European entities’ activities in the field of social reintegration
Skills
Having finished the process of learning, a student has the following skills:
• correctly assesses the European solutions with the goals of correctional education, welfare and aiding systems
• interprets different European legal solutions from the point of view of their correctional usefulness
• assess the policy of European countries regarding reactions to demoralization and children and youth’s lack of social adaptation
Personal and social competences
Having finished the process of learning, a student has the following personal and social competences:
• follows the ethical rules of correctional stuff and in European law
• verifies activities of Polish correctional, welfare and aiding institutions from European point of View
• is aware of the need to change the system of correctional, welfare and aiding solutions
