Oral Expression in Spanish II (Discurso oral en espańol II) 3305-WUH2-1U
Continuing the tasks carried in the first semester, students will be familiarizing themselves with ways of addressing the modern reality, expressed in the oral discourse by Spanish-speaking authors from various fields of social and political life, as well as arts ans science. The presentations done in class, in reference to the topics covered in the first part of the module and based on materials indicated in the bibliography, will belong to the subject matter covered by the Iberian philology study program, with particular emphasis on social and cultural issues. They may also be linked to research conducted by students. When evaluating projects, in addition to the criteria already mentioned in the general part, aspects such as the use of appropriate vocabulary and the rhetoric of speech will be taken into account. The deepening of language skills will take place together with the approach of various topics requiring knowledge of a character beyond general. Thus, participants will be able to express themselves on issues crucial for understanding contemporary reality. There will also be introduced elements of academic discourse, including, above all, the logic of expression and the strict use of discursive links.
With regard to the level of knowledge of Spanish, classes will be conducted maintaining the standards corresponding to the C2 level according to the European system of language education description, which means enhancing oral expressions based on a very good knowledge of the rules of linguistic communication in its pragmatic dimension, including the use of idiomatic expressions, colloquialisms, professional terminology and language appropriate to fields of scientific disciplines related to Iberian studies.
Themes’ scope:
Students will receive a list of topics, concerning mankind greatest challenges, covering social, political, and cultural issues such as:
- euroscepticism
- family models, demographic decline
- historical memory, national identity
- modern lifestyles and values
- ecology
- effective communication methods
- consumer society
- body cult
-internet and social media and their impact in the modern world
-belic conflicts
-the most important moments in the history of the humanity
In accordance with the course learning outcomes, topics related to C2-level Spanish grammar and vocabulary will also be covered.

The main educational objective of this module is that students continue the process of acquisition and deepening of the knowledge, skills and competences related to the use of the spoken Spanish spoken, with particular emphasis on research areas related to media discourse, as well as cultural, social, political and economic issues concerning the functioning of the modern world. Students will learn how to build oral statements on substantive topics, with attention to precision, skillful synthesis of source materials, the use of an appropriate language register and critical analysis of the topic undertaken. The results of the work will be presented in the form of a speech delivered during the classes. The work in the second semester, in relation with the first part of the module, will be characterized by a higher level of complexity of the issues undertaken.
El objetivo principal de este módulo es profundizar conocimientos, habilidades y competencias propias para el uso apropiado del registro culto oral del español, con especial énfasis en temas de interés global, así como en fenómenos culturales, sociales, políticos y económicos relacionados con el funcionamiento del mundo actual. Los estudiantes aprenderán a construir discurso oral basándose en temas concretos propuestos por el profesor. Se requiere precisión, síntesis, selección crítica de fuentes, uso de un registro lingüístico apropiado y análisis crítico del tema. Los resultados de las tareas realizadas se presentarán en forma de ponencia/ presentación. El trabajo en el segundo semestre, en relación con la primera parte de la asignatura, se caracterizará por un mayor nivel de complejidad de los asuntos abordados.

– S1K_U05, S2K_U05 use spoken Spanish at CEFR C2 level with emphasis on complex subject matter, understanding all types of sources and using register and expressions that are appropriate in form and content.

Habilidades
El estudiante es capaz de:
S1K_U02, S2K_U02 preparar de forma independiente una presentación formal, tanto breve como extensa,sobre el tema tratado; seleccionar fuentes de manera precisa y reflexiva; saber usar lo aprendido en clase para desarrollar sus intereses científicos.
S1K_U03 y S2K_U03 utilizar las habilidades lingüísticas adquiridas para comprender y producir textos orales con el uso de terminología profesional; responder con comprensión a las intervenciones de otros participantes de las clases.
S1K_U05 y S2K_U05 utilizar el español oralmente, especialmente al hablar en público, a nivel C2 según el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas (MCER). Esto significa la posesión de una competencia lingüística activa y pasiva (necesaria para preparar una presentación), de la habilidad de comprender fácilmente todo tipo de fuentes utilizadas para elaborar una presentación y el empleo de expresiones apropiadas, también formalmente, al tema tratado, con el énfasis puesto sobre un temario cuyo grado de complejidad sobrepase el discurso común.

S1K_K01 y S2K_K01 presentar su ponencia ante el grupo y escuchar con respeto las presentaciones de los demás participantes de las clases.

Assessment criteria
Preparation for classes: students individually or in groups prepare vocabulary and ways to present the topic proposed by the teacher.
Active participation in classes: presentation of a short and longer speech (20% and 40% of the mark, respectively); taking part in class discussions (10% of the mark).
Final project: oral presentation on an established topic (30% of the mark).
The students will be given the list of topics prepared by the teacher at the beginning of the term.
Two unexcused absences are allowed.
Preparación para la clase: los estudiantes, individualmente o en grupo, se familiarizan con el vocabulario y elaboran el modo de presentar el tema propuesto por el profesor.
(Lista de temas a debatir en clase, preparar en forma de presentación/ponencia y presentar en el examen oral será entregada a los estudiantes al principio del curso ) .
Participación activa en clase: presentación de una ponencia breve y otra más extensa (20 % y 40 % de la calificación, respectivamente).
Participación en debates en clase (10% de la calificación).
Proyecto final: presentación oral dedicada a un tema concreto del temario proporcionado por el profesor (30% de la calificación).
Se permiten dos ausencias injustificadas.
