The aim of the course is to introduce students to the specifics of academic work and the functioning of the university environment. The course aims
to develop the skills necessary for studying at an academic level, working with academic texts, and producing one’s own academic work whilst
adhering to the principles of academic ethics. The course topics include: improving skills in searching for, analysing and critically evaluating
sources, and distinguishing between academic and non-academic sources; learning how to correctly prepare footnotes and bibliographies in
accordance with academic standards and apply editorial norms; familiarising students with the specific nature, structure and principles of creating
selected types of academic texts and their basic typology; developing the skills necessary for the independent preparation of academic texts, with
particular emphasis on the core discipline – literary studies; an introduction to the principles of ethical academic writing, including the use of artificial
intelligence in academic work.

Knowledge
The graduate knows and understands:
S1_W05: the characteristics of various types of academic texts;
S1_W12: concepts and principles relating to intellectual property protection and copyright.
Skills
The graduate is able to:
S1_U01 using various sources and methods – search for, analyse, evaluate, select and use information to solve complex problems specific to the
disciplines covered by the degree programme;
S1_U03 apply basic research skills, including the formulation and analysis of research problems, the selection of research methods and tools,
and the compilation and presentation of results, in the disciplines covered by the degree programme;
S1_U08 communicate in Polish using appropriately selected information and communication technologies.
Social competences
The graduate is prepared to:
S1_K02 recognise the importance of knowledge, particularly scientific knowledge, in independently solving cognitive and practical problems, and
to seek expert advice when encountering difficulties in resolving them;
S1_K05 adhere to the principles of professional ethics in the performance of their professional roles and promote ethical attitudes within the team
and the professional environment.
Assessment criteria
A continuous assessment system is in place.
Ongoing assessment of knowledge:
attendance at classes (60% attendance during the semester is required to pass the course, including one permitted unexcused absence),
participation in discussions and completion of tasks assigned during classes (worksheets) and as part of homework, reading texts at home.
Completion of the term paper.
