Spanish theater, literature and cinematography: influences and inspirations 3305-TLKH-SEM-MGR-2U
Students carry out research in the field of Spanish literature and its relationships with cinema and visual arts. The broad spectrum of M.A. thesis subjects includes issues connected with Spanish literature, theatre and drama over the centuries, with the special emphasis on the 20th and 21st century theatre. Apart from the works concerning the literature's and theatre's history, the course includes the studies of drama and theatre theory as well as comparative studies referring to the various connections between literature, theatre and cinematography art, including issues of film adaptations, mutual influences and inspirations as well as shared subjects and problems raised by the Spanish literature, theatre and cinema. There is also a possibility to prepare M.A. thesis only on the subject of Spanish cinema.
Seminar's programme includes the issues connected with writing techniques of preparing M.A. thesis (the subject choice, methodology, the choice of secondary literature, selection and critical use of the sources, work's structure, clarity and validity of posed thesis statements). An important part of the seminar will be workshops devoted to academic writing; it means, issues related to the construction of an academic text, phraseology for an academic text, etc. For this purpose, there will be discussed some examples of scientific texts in terms of their layout, composition, preparation of footnotes and bibliography, etc. In addition, students will write their own academic texts that will be discussed in formal and linguistic terms.
The formula of the course is based primarily on reports concerning the reading connected to the M.A. thesis. The evaluation covers both persons presenting papers as well as other students participating in the discussion. They must demonstrate the ability to formulate critical judgments and opinions on individual presentations and to put questions to the speaker.
