Spanish Syntax: Basic Concepts 3305-SJH-01W
The course will cover the analysis of major syntactic issues, with particular emphasis on dependency syntax:
1. The role of syntax in the linguistic system
2. The nature of syntactic relations
3. The issue of verb valency
4. Dependency syntax – selected topics
5. The concept of sentence structure
6. Types of complex sentences
7. Syntactic analysis of various types of sentences
Note: Knowledge of Polish is required.
The content will be presented in a contrastive Polish-Spanish approach, and Polish will therefore be used during the classes.

Learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, the student:
- knows and understands the tools of syntactic analysis (K_W01, K_W05),
- is able to apply the tools of syntactic analysis (K_U01, K_U03),
- is able to perform logical sentence analysis within the dependency syntax
framework (K_U01, K_U03),
- is capable of independently acquiring knowledge in the field of syntax research, as well as developing and expanding research skills, including methodological and terminological expertise, gained during the course (K_U01, K_U02, K_U03),
- knows and understands the connections between linguistic research and other fields of the humanities (K_W02, K_W04, K_W06),
- is prepared to collaborate effectively in a group (K_K01).
Assessment criteria
Course Completion Requirements:
- 10% of the grade: Attendance (up to 2 absences allowed).
- 40% of the grade: Active participation in classes.
- 50% of the grade: Final written test result.
Grading Scale:
90% - 100% = 5
84% - 89% = 4+
77% - 83% = 4
70% - 76% = 3+
60% - 69% = 3
