Spanish I 3305-PNJH1-11
After the first semester first year Students reach lower intermediate level referred to the academic scope of the use of language in this level, which means a considerably amplified capacity to understand statements received and the structures used. This is the minimum level acquired by those who start their studies as beginners in spanish.
After the first semester of the first year, the Student:
1. is an active recipient of statements in Spanish related to everyday life (weather, daily schedule, lifestyle, basic characteristics of people, objects and places, typical activities, main traditions); understands the main sense of the content directed to Her/ Him and finds specific information in order to reproduce or convey it;
2. understands simple Spanish informational texts as well as those maintained within the scope of the studies, as well as the student’s intellectual and artistic interests; can find them independently among the available sources;
3. is able to maintain writing correspondence in Spanish, such as a letter or an email, conveying key content related to one's own situation, as well as to fill out surveys and forms;
4. communicates in Spanish in relatively simple situations (e.g. concerning personal life, studies, interests, obtaining service);
5. presents Her/ His opinion in ideological discussions and is able to refer to current socio-cultural events, using basic structures;
6. when taking part in a conversation, can influence its course by using formulas for asking questions, asking for repetition, and expressing (dis)approval.
7. formulates in Spanish descriptions of people, spaces and events sufficient to identify a given object;
8. is aware of key aspects of the specificity of the Spanish language as compared to Polish (position of the adjective in the sentence, gender of the noun, double complement, pronunciation, spelling differences).
9. has a preliminary understanding of how to use intonation and style of a statement in Spanish to interpret it.

Knowledge:
The Student knows:
- the most relevant terminology in the fields of vocabulary, morphology and syntax allowing for correct communication in Spanish at a minimum lower intermediate level (K_W03);
Abilities:
The Student knows how to:
- use both the knowledge acquired and the ability to use the context clues in the process of reading texts in Spanish, gaining full understanding of simple texts (K_U01);
- express the subjectively important content in Spanish with main uses of the subjunctive (K_U02);
- use cultural texts, such as song lyrics and simple poems, in language learning (K_U03);
- choose texts and exercises that will combine the function of consolidating knowledge and stimulating its further development, appropriately to Her/ His level (at least lower intermediate) (K_U04);
- write a text that meets the grammatical, semiotic and aesthetic requirements for first-year students, on a humanistic topic provided by the teacher from the set of topics developed during classes (K_U05):
- work on the appropriate pronunciation using the teacher's advice and model recordings containing structures developed in the first semester (K_U06);
- refer to the mistakes made by using appropriate grammatical categories (artículo determinado, indeterminado, pronombre personal, reflexivo, objeto directo, indirecto, verbo, sujeto, presente, pretérito perfecto, gerundio, participio, imperativo) (K_U07);
- put in practise the knowledge of the use of the Spanish language on at least a lower intermediate level to realize activities resulting from the specificity of iberian studies and related to the understanding of cultural texts interpreted during classes (K_U08);
Social competences:
The Student is disposed to:
- selecting linguistic elements to build non-schematic statements as part of the topics covered in the classes (K_K01);
- using the language skills acquired during the course in order to establish a mindful dialogue with other people (K_K02);
- participating in lectures on cultural topics delivered by Spanish speakers by understanding key concepts (cuadro, pintor, música, ritmo, arte, baile, obra, película, director, actores, argumento, estilo, etc.) (K_K03);
- independent reading of simple content published on the Internet regarding phenomena shaping the cultural world of Spanish-speaking countries(K_K04);
Assessment criteria
The condition of passing the course is a positive evaluation of the student’s classwork during the semester: it is necessary to get the minimum of 65% of the 40 points possible to achieve.
Persons who achieve a lower result, or will not have gathered minimum 100 points from all the tests, will be obliged to pass the final test taking place during the examination session.
The assessment criteria for the classwork include: attendance and activity during classes (2 unexcused absences allowed for each of the lecturers) - 10 points, the result of tests - 20 points, and the medium mark given for 6 essays - 10 points.
The scope of the tests will cover all grammatical and lexical issues discussed in a given period.
Unexcused absences exceeding the permitted number will result in a lower grade (1 absence > - 0.5 points)
When assessing, there will be taken into account the requirement of forming student’s awareness of His/Her individual level of knowledge and the understanding of the need for continuous development. Thus, as part of the activity assessment there will by highly evaluated such abilities as: correcting ones own mistakes, striving to express content of a higher level of complexity, and respecting the rules of the culture of conversation.
