After the first semester first year students reach lower intermediate level referred to the philological scope of the use of language, which means a considerably amplified capacity to understand statements on the behalf of their receiver,
This is the minimum level acquired by those of them who start their studies as beginners in Spanish.
After the first semester of the first year, the student:
I. is an active recipient of statements in spanish related to everyday life; understands the main sense of the content directed to him and finds specific information in order to reproduce or convey it;
II. understands spanish informational texts as well as those maintained within the scope of the subjects studies, as well as the student’s intellectual and artistic interests; can find them independently among the available sources;
III. is able to maintain writing correspondence in spanish, as well as to fill out surveys and forms;
IV. communicates in spanish in relatively simple situations (e.g. when the exchange of opinions concerns personal life, studies, interests), but also presents his opinion in ideological discussions and is able to refer to current socio-cultural events; while taking part in a conversation, is able to maintain it herself/ himself, but also to resort to the support of the interlocutor;
V. formulates in spanish descriptions of events and activities, as well as statements on given topics that require expressing her/his opinion;
VI. is aware of the specificity of the Spanish language as compared to Polish; recognizes the ambiguity of registers and concept ranges in both codes, as well as syntax differences;
VII. learns to understand the importance of style and tone of a given text or statement as a whole, for the interpretation of its individual fragments;

Knowledge:
The student knows:
- the most relevant terminology in the fields of vocabulary, morphology and syntax allowing for correct communication in Spanish at a minimum lower intermediate level (K_W03);
Abilities:
The student knows how to:
- use both the knowledge acquired and the ability to use the context clues in the process of reading texts in spanish (K_U01);
- express the subjectively important content in Spanish (K_U02);
- use texts concerning cultural issues in language learning (K_U03);
- choose texts and exercises that will combine the function of consolidating knowledge and stimulating its further development (K_U04);
- write a text that meets the grammatical, semiotic and aesthetic requirements for first-year students, on a humanistic topic provided by the teacher (K_U05):
- work on the appropriate pronunciation using the teacher's advice and model recordings (K_U06);
- refer to the mistakes made by using appropriate grammatical categories (K_U07);
- put in practise the knowledge of the use of the Spanish language on at least a lower intermediate level to realize activities resulting from the specificity of philological studies (K_U08);
Social competences:
The student is capable of:
- selecting linguistic elements to build non-schematic statements (K_K01);
- conducting discussions in an engaged manner and with respect and interest for the interlocutors (K_K02);
- participating in lectures on cultural topics delivered by Spanish speakers (K_K03);
- independent reading of texts on the phenomena that shape the reality of the spanish speaking countries, overcoming emerging difficulties thanks to the awareness of the communal nature of participation in the world of culture (K_K04);
Assessment criteria
The condition of passing the course is a positive evaluation of the student’s classwork during the semester: it is necessary to get the minimum of 65% of the 40 points possible to achieve.
Persons who achieve a lower result will be obliged to pass the final test taking place during the examination session.
The assessment criteria for the classwork include: attendance and activity during classes (2 absences allowed for each of the lecturers), the result of tests and the mark given for essays.
When assessing, there will be taken into account the requirement of forming student’s awareness of his/her individual level of knowledge and the understanding of the need for continuous development, as stated in the list of social competences to acquire by a student of Hispanic Studies.
Thus, there will by highly evaluated such abilities as: thinking independently, correcting ones own mistakes, striving to express content of a higher level of complexity, and respecting the rules of the culture of conversation.
