Nahuatl 2: the advanced Nahuatl language and the literature written in Nahuatl 3305-N-Z-SPEC
"Nahuatl 2: the advanced Nahuatl language and the literature written in Nahuatl" The course does not only provide opportunity to practice Nahua grammar application, but it provides an opportunity to gain fluency in Nahuatl sources translation. The students work on original XVI- and XVII-century texts. The texts constitute fragments of chronicles written in Nahuatl, commentaries to codices, poetry, testaments, petitions, etc. Consequently the students learn about differences in Nahuatl language resulting from different stages of its development (XVI and XVII century Nahuatl).
The purpose of the course is to give the students fluency in using the Nahuatl texts in their investigations in order to prepare theses, on subjects ranging from Mesoamerica history and culture (Central Mexico region) to Nahuatl literature, as well as linguistics.
