This seminar is aimed at third-year undergraduate students and is conducted in Portuguese. It aims to prepare students for writing a bachelor’s dissertation in the field of Portuguese literature, equipping them with the working methods and knowledge necessary for its completion. More specifically, the seminar aims to:
> familiarise students with the iterative process of writing a bachelor’s dissertation, covering its key stages: planning, researching, drafting, and revising;
> consolidate and expand knowledge in the fields of scientific research, academic writing and the main approaches to literary criticism, including their theoretical foundations and analytical tools;
> support each student in the development of their project, providing academic guidance and a supportive environment throughout the entire research process.

Este seminário destina-se ao terceiro ano de licenciatura e é conduzido em português. Visa preparar os estudantes para a escrita de uma dissertação de licenciatura no domínio da literatura portuguesa, dotando-os de um método de trabalho e dos conhecimentos necessários para o seu desenvolvimento. Mais concretamente, o seminário propõe-se a:
> familiarizar os estudantes com o processo recursivo de escrita de uma dissertação de licenciatura, nas suas etapas fundamentais: planear, investigar, textualizar, rever;
> consolidar e expandir conhecimentos no domínio da investigação científica, da escrita académica e das principais abordagens da crítica literária, incluindo as suas bases teóricas e instrumentos de análise;
> acompanhar cada estudante no desenvolvimento do seu projeto, proporcionando orientação científica e um espaço de apoio ao longo de todo o processo de investigação.

The student is familiar with the methodology of literary research and is able to apply it when formulating a research question and a plan for their bachelor’s thesis (K_W03); The student is familiar with phenomena in the history of literature and culture of the Portuguese-speaking world necessary for the independent development of a topic for their bachelor’s thesis (K_W06); The student is familiar with the fundamental trends in the development of Portuguese thought relevant to the analysis and interpretation of a selected text or literary phenomenon (K_W06); The student is familiar with the fundamental trends in the development of Portuguese thought relevant to the analysis and interpretation of a selected text or literary phenomenon (K_W07); The student is familiar with the criteria necessary for the professional analysis of literary and cultural processes and is able to apply them in academic writing (K_W08).
The student is able to acquire knowledge independently and develop research skills, drawing on guidance from their supervisor (K_U02); The student is able to formulate a research problem, select appropriate methods and tools for literary analysis, and present the results in the form of a coherent written paper (K_U03); The student is able to conduct a critical analysis and interpretation of a literary text, taking into account its meanings, social impact and place within the historical and cultural process (K_U05); The student is able to argue substantively using the relevant literature and formulate independent conclusions (K_U06)
The student is able to independently and systematically develop their knowledge and research skills whilst working on their bachelor’s thesis (K_K01); The student is able to set priorities and manage their own research process in order to complete their bachelor’s thesis on time (K_K04); The student is prepared to treat the literary and cultural heritage of the Portuguese-speaking world responsibly as a subject of academic reflection and is aware that their work contributes to a better understanding of the exchange of ideas between Polish and Portuguese cultures (K_K06)

Assessment criteria

Assessment based on:
> attendance (if absences exceed 50%, the student will be required to complete additional work),
> active participation in class: presentations on the progress of the research,
> final presentation of the key ideas of the dissertation.
The overall assessment comprises these elements and the mark for the final version of the dissertation.
N.B.: In the second semester, classes consist of joint sessions on individual projects: introduction, individual work, and a report on the work carried out.

Possibility of alternative forms of assessment

For students with special assessment needs, alternative forms of coursework and assessment may be negotiated. Such an alternative form will be presented and agreed upon jointly by the teacher and the student within the first two weeks of the course.

Avaliação baseada em:
> presenças (em caso de faltas superiores a 50%, o aluno terá de realizar trabalhos complementares),
> participação ativa na aula: apresentações sobre os progressos da investigação,
> apresentação final das ideias-chaves da dissertação.
A avaliação completa compreende estes elementos e a nota da dissertação na sua versão final.
N.B.:No segundo semestre, as aulas consistem em sessões conjuntas de trabalhos individuais: introdução, trabalho individual, relatório do trabalho realizado.
