The aim of the class is to introduce important trends, male and female writers and Spanish literary texts of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The analysis will be carried out from different approaches, taking into account the basic elements of literary and cultural studies analysis, with the aim of developing the students' literary critical competence. Attention will be paid to the literary, historical, cultural and social context of the commented works. This will allow not only a complementary analytical perspective, but also to orient students to the diverse range of phenomena of Spanish literature: literary directions, currents, trends and generations.
The class will consist of a brief introduction and discussion of the selected works (or its excerpts). Preparation for classes consists of obligatory readings (listed in the course bibliography). Students will be invited to co-organize the work of the course, selecting critical texts on the selected works, preparing quotations and definitions of key literary terms.

El análisis de los textos completos o de los fragmentos propuestos para la lectura se realizará desde diferentes enfoques, teniendo en cuenta los elementos básicos del análisis literario y desde la perspectiva de los estudios culturales, con el objetivo de desarrollar la competencia crítica literaria de lxs estudiantes. Se prestará atención al contexto literario, histórico, cultural y social de las obras comentadas. Esto permitirá no sólo una perspectiva analítica complementaria, sino también orientar a lxs estudiantes hacia la diversa gama de fenómenos de la literatura española: direcciones, corrientes, tendencias y generaciones literarias.
La clase consistirá en una breve introducción y una discusión de las obras seleccionadas (o sus fragmentos). La preparación para las clases consiste en la lectura de los textos (enumerados en la bibliografía del curso). Se invitará a lxs estudiantes a coorganizar el trabajo del curso, seleccionando textos críticos relacionados con las obras elegidas, preparando citas y definiciones de términos literarios clave.

Knowledge: students will know and understand: the basic methods of analysis of Spanish literary texts, characterized by the diversity of registers and styles; the basic terminology in the analysis of literary texts, covering Spanish poetry, epic and theater; a structured history of Spanish literature (trends, currents of the time, main authors and their works) from the end of the twentieth century to the beginning of the twenty-first century; a rudimentary connection of Spanish literature (poetry, epic and drama) with historical and cultural processes, including the phenomena of post-modern culture (K_W02, K_W03, K_W04, K_W05).
Abilities: students will be able to: read different types of literary texts with comprehension; present their own views, opinions, discuss Spanish literary works; recognize different types of Spanish literary texts (poetry, epic, drama), place them in a general historical and cultural context and analyze them using basic terminology and appropriate methods; acquire knowledge autonomously and develop their skills using appropriate sources from selected areas of science and scientific disciplines relevant to Hispanic studies (source texts, ancillary materials, case studies, etc.). Write and edit a written paper using appropriate methods and relevant sources in the field of literary studies and the history of literature on Spanish literature of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries; prepare a communication, paper or presentation on a given topic related to Spanish literature of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries; use basic terminology in the field of the history of Spanish literature and literary studies (K_U01, K_U02, K_U03, K_U04, K_U05, K_U06, K_U07).
Social skills: students are prepared to: critically evaluate their own knowledge and skills, work independently and autonomously and understand the need for improvement and lifelong learning; plan and organize their work, be enterprising and cooperate in teams and respect the principles of professional ethics; actively participate in Spanish culture using different forms and media and work in teams performing different functions; follow contemporary processes and phenomena occurring in Spanish culture and literature (K_K01, K_K02, K_K03, K_K04).

Conocimientos: lxs graduadxs conocerán y comprenderán: los métodos básicos de análisis de los textos literarios españoles, que se caracterizan por la diversidad de registros y estilos; la terminología básica en el análisis de los textos literarios, abarcando la poesía, la épica y el teatro españoles; una historia estructurada de la literatura española (tendencias, corrientes de la época, principales autores y sus obras) desde finales del siglo XX hasta principios del siglo XXI; una conexión rudimentaria de la literatura española (poesía, épica y teatro) con los procesos históricos y culturales, incluidos los fenómenos de la cultura posmoderna (K_W02, K_W03, K_W04, K_W05).
Capacidades: lxs graduadxs serán capaces de: leer diferentes tipos de textos literarios con comprensión; presentar sus propios puntos de vista, opiniones, debatir sobre obras literarias españolas; reconocer diferentes tipos de textos literarios españoles (poesía, épica, drama), situarlos en un contexto histórico y cultural general y analizarlos utilizando terminología básica y métodos apropiados; adquirir conocimientos de forma autónoma y desarrollar sus habilidades utilizando fuentes apropiadas de áreas seleccionadas de la ciencia y disciplinas científicas relevantes para los estudios hispánicos (textos fuente, materiales auxiliares, estudios monográficos, etc.). Redactar y editar un trabajo escrito utilizando métodos apropiados y fuentes relevantes en el campo de los estudios literarios y la historia de la literatura sobre sobre la literatura española de finales del siglo XX y principios del XXI; preparar una comunicación, un trabajo o una presentación sobre un tema determinado relacionado con la literatura española de finales del siglo XX y principios del XXI; utilizar terminología básica en el campo de la historia de la literatura española y los estudios literarios (K_U01, K_U02, K_U03, K_U04, K_U05, K_U06, K_U07).
Competencias sociales: lxs graduadxs estarán preparados para: evaluar críticamente sus propios conocimientos y habilidades, trabajar de forma independiente y autónoma y comprender la necesidad de mejora y aprendizaje permanente; planificar y organizar su trabajo, ser emprendedor y cooperar en equipo y respetar los principios de la ética profesional; participar activamente en la cultura española utilizando diferentes formas y medios y trabajar en equipo desempeñando diferentes funciones; seguir los procesos y fenómenos contemporáneos que se producen en la cultura y la literatura españolas (K_K01, K_K02, K_K03, K_K04).
Assessment criteria
The course can be passed based on a passing grade (above 60%) on the oral final exam, which weighs 100%. Detailed information concerning the scope and form of the exam will be presented during the first class.
A grade increase (of up to 10%) can be achieved for active participation in the classes, such as presentations, participation in in-class debates, and/or engagement in the analysis and interpretation of texts (individually and in groups).
Admission to the final examination is based on the ongoing student work, which encompasses the following aspects:
- Class participation: attendanceis mandatory (a maximum of two unexcused absences is allowed; if a student has more than two absences, whether excused or unexcused, they must make up for the missed classes during office hours or by completing an additional assignment). Missing 50% or more of the classes scheduled for a given academic semester will result in a 'not classified' (NK) status.
- Class preparation: obligatory readings (min. four whole novels + excerpts from other novels included in the program, short stories, selected poems) and active participation.
