Intercultural Communication in Business 3305-KMB-01W
The course in intercultural communication in business complements the linguistics course with content showing the cultural conditions of the communication process, with particular emphasis on the business environment. Its aim is to effectively prepare you to undertake informed communication activities and conduct linguistic and communicological analyses in an intercultural context.
Participants in the course will be introduced to concepts and models of intercultural communication and activities that support the development of their intercultural competence.They will be prepared to establish intercultural contacts in business.

Knowledge:
Students will know and understand:
- the basic methods of analysing scientific and semi-scientific texts concerning the issues discussed in class;

- basic terminology, subject matter and research directions in the field of intercultural communication;

- to a basic degree: selected methodological problems of intercultural communication, with particular emphasis on research in the Iberian field;

- in a basic level: issues and terminology of intercultural communication;.

Students will be able to:
- read with comprehension scientific and semi-scientific texts in the field of intercultural communication (especially in the business environment), as well as analyse them taking into account the basic terminology learnt in class;

- present his/her own views and opinions on the discussed issues/texts, as well as formulate a short oral statement taking into account basic theoretical approaches, research paradigms and notions specific to intercultural communication;

- write and edit a short written piece on a thesis and use in writing basic theoretical approaches, research paradigms and notions specific to intercultural communication;

- Independently acquire knowledge and develop skills using relevant sources in the field of intercultural communication, such as dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopaedias, source texts, or monographic studies.

The student is ready to:
- critically evaluate his/her own knowledge and skills; understands the need for continuous improvement and development in intercultural competence;

- to plan and organise his/her work independently, to cooperate with colleagues, and to observe the rules of contemporary linguistic etiquette, paying particular attention to the rules of politeness and non-discriminatory language guidelines specific to Polish, Spanish and Portuguese.
