Cultural Anthropology in Iberian and Ibero-American world 3305-AKII-11W
The aim is to introduce the student to selected basic research perspectives, theoretical issues and terminology in the field of cultural anthropology in the context of their practical application in the analysis of cultural phenomena of the Iberian world, both in the past and today.
The material will be organized thematically (not chronologically) o present to students broadly analytical notions and perspectives of study and give them tools to analyze various cultural phenomena of the contemporary world. Special attention will be given to critical reading of theoretical texts and reflection on possibilities and limitations that imply the use of given theories.In the classes we will also use additional visual and audiovisual materials.

Learning outcomes
Student knows basic terminology of the field of research covering selected areas of cultural anthropology and religion studies specific to Iberian studies, with particular emphasis on symbolic anthropology anthropology of performance and anthrpology of word (i.e., the concepts of time, space, myth, orality, liminality, play/game); basic aspects of cultural studies of Spanish-speaking countries. (K_W01; K_W03).
Student is able to read with comprehension theoretical texts on anthropological topics; present their own views, opinions, discuss, prepare presentations on topics related to cultural anthropology and religious studies; recognize different types of texts and place them in the general historical and cultural context of the studied region (Iberian Peninsula/Latin America) and conduct their critical analysis and interpretation using basic terminology and methods proper to cultural anthropology and religious studies; independently acquire knowledge and develop skills using relevant sources from selected areas of cultural and religious studies proper to Hispanic studies (dictionaries, encyclopedias, audio-visual sources, reference texts, monographic studies, etc. ); prepare oral presentations using appropriate methods and relevant sources from cultural anthropology and religious studies relevant to Hispanic studies; use to a basic degree selected theoretical approaches, research paradigms and concepts proper to cultural anthropology and religious studies (with particular emphasis on symbolic anthropology, anthropology of performance, and anthropology of word) (K_U01; K_U02; K_U03; K_U04; K_U05; K_U06; K_U07).
Student is capable of critical assessment of their knowledge and skills, independent and autonomous work, and understands the need for improvement and lifelong learning; planning and organizing work, entrepreneurship and team collaboration, and compliance with professional ethics; active participation in the culture of the studied regions using various forms and media and to work in a team performing various roles; being informed about current processes and phenomena occurring in the culture of Spanish speaking countries. Assessment criteria
The criteria of evaluation are as follows:
- active participation in classes throughout the course, including the preparation of a presentation containing an example of the application of one of the concepts discussed (50% of the final note);
- oral exam (50% of the final note).
Activity in class takes the form of continuous evaluation using a Likert scale (points from 0 to 3 awarded after each class).
The oral exam consists of 3 questions, drawn by the student from a general pool of questions.
Attendance in class is mandatory. Two absences per semester are allowed. For each additional unexcused absence, the final grade will be lowered by half a grade. Twice in a semester, it is possible to pass the material of the class during individual consultations to cancel the absence.
