Master's Seminar II: From Discourse Analysis to the Analysis of Verbal Interactions 3304-2D2W-SM-030
The aim of the seminar will be to help master’s students complete their theses
and prepare them for their final exam.
The last two semesters of the seminar will continue the topics addressed in the previous academic year. However, the topics discussed will now be tailored to the needs of specific master’s thesis topics. Master’s students will present excerpts from their theses, which they will gradually submit in written form to their advisors for approval.
The seminar will also cover general topics aimed at preparing master’s students for the final exam.
With regard to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in classes and when preparing a dissertation, the rules set out in Resolution No. 42 of the Teaching Council for the Roman Philology degree programme, dated 15 April 2024, apply.

Master’s students will also familiarize themselves with the ethical principles regarding the use of AI in accordance with the guidelines introduced at the University of Warsaw.

The student knows and understands:
- the subject matter of research and the specific nature of linguistics as an academic discipline (K_W01);
- the main concepts and corresponding terms used to describe language (K_W02);
- the detailed principles of analyzing and interpreting texts belonging to various discourse genres (K_W11)
- concepts and principles related to intellectual property protection and copyright law, in particular the rules governing the citation of others’ statements (K_W15)
The student is able to:
- analyze selected linguistic phenomena from the perspective of learned linguistic theories, using appropriate terminology and methodology (K_U03, K_U12);
- argue substantively using the views of other authors and their own views, formulate conclusions, and present them synthetically (K_U06).
- conduct scientific research in the field of the seminar (K_U13).
The student is prepared to:
- critically evaluate their own knowledge of language and their ability to apply it in the analysis of linguistic phenomena and in communication (K_K01).
