Travel : Theory, Symbols, Experience (literature and paintings) 3304-2D2W-SM-026
The seminar is devoted to the analysis of the motif of travel in French-language literature and painting of the 18th and 21st centuries. The theme of travel is analyzed from two perspectives: as a certain symbol or metaphor of human life and as the experience of a real or unreal journey (voyage imaginaire).
The third semester of classes will focus on topics selected by the Students: it included theoretical preparation and in-depth analysis of texts/images. Selected Issues:
- travel and searching for oneself (rhizomatic/hybrid/mosaic identity);
- building descriptions of space and its role in literature (geopoetics, geocriticism and literary geography);
- travel as an element of text construction (formal research);
- relations between text and image (intermediality and transmediality);
- comparative studies as a tool of literary analysis.
