Topics covered will include the following:
- the concept of "multiple identities" (identité plurielle)
- definition of the concept of multilingual competence
- definition of the term "intercultural competence"
- A system for describing pluralistic approaches to languages and cultures: the concept of "multiple approaches"
- assumption of an intercultural approach
- the premise of the "open to languages" approach
- intercomprehension assumptions
- the principles of integrated language education
- conditions for effective positive interlingual transfer

Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will have the following knowledge and substantive and social skills.
Student:
- defines the phenomenon of multilingualism and multiculturalism in linguistic; sociolinguistic and glottodidactic contexts ;
- characterises plurilingual and intercultural competence as well as ways of developing them in foreign language lessons;
- identifies the role of the social context as a condition for the development of multilingual and multicultural competence;
- is able to relate theoretical issues to teaching practice
- searches for information and adds to the literature on the subject
- self-evaluates his/her work
Assessment criteria
systematic and active class attendance (two absences permitted)
preparation of project tasks
a positive mark for the credit test
NOTE: The form and criteria for passing the course may change depending on the current epidemic emergency. Equivalent conditions for passing will be established in accordance with the guidelines in force at the University of Warsaw, in agreement with the course participants.
