Historical and cultural seminar IIz/IIIz + p : France and the Francophone world - history, geography, culture 3304-1DZXW-KHK-25
The aim of the course is to learn about selected issues relating to the history, geography and culture of France, including Francophonie in the broadest sense. Each student or group of students will be expected to prepare in oral and written form (dossier to be prepared at a later date) an issue of their choice, in which topics will appear relating to e.g. a specific historical region, city or mountains of France. This exemplary choice encourages the exploration of famous ski stations (tourist aspect), picturesque valleys, villages and towns, spas and Roman baths, volcanic hills.... Further down this road, there are also thermal waters, rivers, lakes, sea, ocean, a world of canals, water sports, important waterways, attractive coastlines with tourist resorts and Corsica, a rocky island with a specific history, language and culture... Finally, geography and history are inextricably linked with the theme of the monuments of France. It is not only the land of castles, it is also the remains of Roman buildings, magnificent abbeys, the golden age of cathedrals or painting, it is also futuristic France - the Eurotunnel or the Futuroscope near Poitiers ...
Proposed thematic groups:
1/ fire and water
2/ glass and concrete
3/ fruit and vegetables
4/ light and dark
Each student or group of students (depending on the number in the class) chooses one topic from the list provided. Each group can choose the same one, as the proposed theme group does not force a specific topic related to a region, city, river, etc. What counts is the idea and creativity.

Assessment methods and criteria: Attendance in class is compulsory. Dossier can be handed in earlier at any time (welcome).
The primary aim is to present a topic that falls within the main focus of the class: history, geography and culture, including two topics from the subject group. Each group is given 70-75 minutes for an oral presentation. After the presentation, the whole class evaluates the presentation, in which, in addition to elements relating to history or geography, there must be elements of literature and/or /language studies and/or visual arts and/or music.... all forms of culture and/or the interpenetration of the arts, so it is advisable to look for elements which are unconventional, not obvious, can be related (welcome) to personal experience.
The following will be assessed: the idea/creativity, the logical thematic whole, the ability to convey knowledge, the way of connecting with the audience, the use of new technologies....
