Painting and architecture of Belgium (19th-20th century) 3304-1DZXW-KHK-23
Art and architecture were an important element in the formation of national and cultural identity in 19th-century Belgium. They had a part to play in the basic founding myths of the young Belgian state. The political and social history of the country was thus linked to the history of art. The class will be devoted to showing the most important phenomena in art and architecture in their relation to the political, social and literary history of Belgium: founding myths, selected trends in art and architecture, selected artists, 'bruxellisation'.
