History and culture course IIz/IIIz + p : History of modernity 3304-1DZXW-KHK-22
The seminar allows us to look at selected important issues of the history and culture of France in the 19th and 20th centuries through the prism of modernity, which, since the great modernization of the French state in the first half of the 19th century, has become one of the central political and aesthetic categories that allow us to describe (and program) the transformation of society and artistic forms. The transformation of Paris into a modern metropolis, industrialization, fascination with machines and war, the popularity of discourses and ideologies of progress, Americanization, the emancipation of minorities, etc. - these phenomena have changed French society to varying degrees, at the same time arousing more or less harsh criticism and often resistance.
