Myths, archetypes, themes and motifs in the literature of the 20th century 3304-1DZ3O-SL-025
The aim of the seminar is to prepare participants to independently write a diploma thesis in accordance with formal and substantive requirements, as well as with the principles of intellectual property protection.
During the classes, students will learn about selected theoretical problems in the field of comparative studies and methods of analyzing myths, archetypes, themes and motifs in French literature of the twentieth century. In the winter semester, theoretical and methodological texts devoted to the functioning of the above-mentioned units of meaning in literary works will be discussed. Students will also learn the general principles of writing a BA thesis, searching for source texts and critical studies, as well as preparing bibliographies and footnotes. At the end of the winter semester, they will choose the topic that will be the subject of their BA thesis. Classes in the summer semester will be devoted to deepening knowledge on selected comparative tools and editing - under the supervision of the teacher - the diploma thesis.

1. ... knows and understands:
- basic comparative terms, such as myth, archetype, theme and theme (K_W04; K_W05)
- at an advanced level, the place and importance of literary studies in the system of sciences and their subject and methodological specificity (K_W01)
- advanced grammar, spelling, lexical, semantic, phonological and stylistic issues in French (K_W08)
2. ... can:
- apply basic theoretical concepts in the field of comparative studies when planning research (K_U01)
- use basic research skills in the field of comparative studies in research (K_U02)
- independently analyze the functioning of a myth, archetype, theme or motif in a literary text using the research tools offered by comparative studies (K_U02; K_U05; K_U06)
- prepare a written work in French, referring to the knowledge gained during the seminar (K_U06)
3. ... is ready to:
- critical assessment of one's own knowledge and skills (K_K01)
- active participation in French and francophone culture, using various forms and media (K_K05)
- comply with the basic principles of professional ethics and the principles of intellectual property protection and copyright (K_K06)
Assessment criteria
Passing conditions:
1. winter semester: active participation and knowledge of obligatory texts in class, passing the test (scope: knowledge from classes and obligatory reading), specifying the issue being the subject of research in the diploma thesis, preparing a general work plan and preliminary bibliography
2. summer semester: active participation in classes, submission of a diploma thesis (outline + multimedia presentation) on a topic related to the seminar program
2 absences in each semester are allowed.
