Faces of love in 17th/18th century French literature 3304-1DPXW-KL-037
The seminar aims to analyse selected literary works (17th/18th century) in which love is the main driver of the characters' actions and behaviour. Love between lovers, love of country, parental love or love of God is presented in different ways throughout the centuries. The class will focus on the evolution of this motif in the 17th/18th centuries. It will also serve as a starting point for reflections on human nature, social, family or political conditions. The seminar will discuss works belonging to two literary genres (plays and novels), and authors will include, for example, Corneille, Racine, the Guilleragues, Marivaux, Voltaire, Madame de Graffigny. A full list of works will be given at the beginning of the class.
