(Foreign Language) Education in the lens of selected works of educational theorists 3301-ZJ-JS007
The course offers an opportunity for a close reading of writings of selected theorists of education, including foreign language education. The course opens with canonical writings of John Dewey, pauses at humanistic approaches to education to reach contemporary thinkers whose proposals incorporate anti-behaviorists stances, the importance of well-being and phenomenology of education.
The course is reflective in nature enabling its participants to inspect the said writings vis a vis own teaching practice and/or learning experience.
1. Introduction to the course. John Dewey – foundations of modern education. Paulo Freire and critical pedagogy.
2. Max van Manen – phenomenology of education. Albert Bandura, or the role of experience.
3. Carl Rogers – foundations of humanistic approach to education. Tammy Gregersen and Sarah Mercer and the role of PosPsych.
4. Alfie Kohn – foundations of anti-behaviorist approaches. Carol Dweck, or how to praise wisely.
5. Gert Biesta – a glance into the future of education. The emancipation of education.
6. Sir Ken Robinson – a contemporary reflection of the condition of education. Education and AI.
7. A wrap-up meeting. Oral test.

Attendance is obligatory. Two absences are allowed.
