Introduction to Psychology 3301-Z-PSYCHW
The lecture will provide participants with structured knowledge of key psychological theories and mechanisms. It will cover fundamental concepts related to human functioning, theories of motivation, selected issues in social psychology and health psychology. The main aim of the lecture is to convey the foundations of psychological knowledge, enabling a deeper understanding of human functioning in the complex and dynamically changing reality of the 21st century.

2. A brief history of psychological thought - psychoanalysis then and now
3. A brief history of psychological thought - behaviorism then and now
4. A brief history of psychological thought - the humanistic approach then and now
5. Humans as social creatures - primary socialization
6. Humans as social creatures - peers, groups, school
7. Humans as social creatures - mechanisms of social influence
8. Stereotypes, prejudice, conflicts
9. Working effectively - emotion regulation
10. Finding the will to act - a few words on motivation
11. Working effectively - stress, friend or enemy?
12. Memory

14. The human being in the contemporary world

Assessment criteria
The final written exam will cover the topics discussed in class and in the assigned literature. Additional points may be earned through active participation during the lectures (quizzes during the lectures).
