BA Seminar Literature and Culture 1 3301-SEM-LIC-LK-1
The BA diploma seminar’s goal is to prepare students for completing a diploma project on the topic of their interest in accordance with formal and methodological requirements. Particular seminars cover the areas of literature and culture of the English-speaking countries. During the first semester, students will learn about the layout and content of the thesis, research methods, and will choose the topic for analysis. The class has a language focus, teaching academic vocabulary and writing skills, including using the appropriate citation and reference style. An important element of the seminar is to raise awareness of intellectual property and copyright laws and their application in writing academic works. Individual consultations during which students discuss their progress with the thesis advisor are an important part of the seminar.

Students will be able to:
K_U01 apply advanced terminology, theory and research methods corresponding to the state of the art in the disciplines of literary studies and culture and region studies within the domain of English Studies
K_U07 use structures, lexis and language conventions appropriate to the communicative situation (e.g. holding a public debate, giving an academic presentation, etc.) in spoken and written English at the minimum level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
K_U08 apply the concepts and principles of intellectual property protection and copyright law
K_U09 apply the knowledge of economic, legal, ethical and other conditions of various professional activities related to the field of study
K_U11 use modern technology to acquire knowledge and communicate through a variety of communication channels and techniques
K_U14 design their own path of development
Social competences
Students will be ready to:
K_K01 critically appraise their knowledge and content obtained from various sources
K_K02 recognize the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems; consult experts when required
