BA Seminar Linguistics 2 3301-SEM-LIC-J-2
At the beginning of the second semester, students will formulate the final title of their BA thesis to gradually develop the outline submitted in the first semester during group classes/individual consultations with the seminar instructor. The second semester focuses on writing a literature review by making use of primary and secondary research sources according to intellectual property and copyright laws and applying appropriate research methods. By the end of the second semester, students are expected to place the final version of their BA thesis in the university-wide archive of diploma theses for anti-plagiarism examination and review.

Knowledge
Students will be able to:
- KW_02 discuss key terminology, well established methods and theories of theoretical/applied linguistics in areas relevant to the topics of the seminar
- KW_05 list and discuss the characteristics of English grammar, syntax, phonology, phonetics, morphology and pragmatics on an advanced level in areas relevant to the topics of the seminar
- KW_07 explain principles of designing linguistic studies, with special focus on selecting appropriate methods and tools in formulating research questions and testing research hypotheses in areas relevant to the topic of the seminar
- KW_11 recall notions and principles pertaining to intellectual property and copyright law
- KW_12 characterize economic, legal and other factors relevant for various kinds of professional activities related to the study programme
Abilities
Students will be able to:
- KU_01 employ the terminology and methodological tools from linguistics in areas relevant to the topics of the seminar
- KU_02 employ the methodology of linguistics within English studies, respecting the ethical norms and copyright law
- KU_03 analyze linguistic phenomena in areas relevant to the topics of the seminar and draw generalizations on their basis with respect to the social, historical and economic context
- KU_04 implement knowledge to describe a problem and identify means to solve it in areas relevant to the topics of the seminar, thereby completing a project in linguistics
- KU_05 collect information from various sources, critically assess a source and usefulness of information; analyse and draw generalizations on the basis of information so obtained with respect to issues pertaining to the topics of the seminar
- KU_07 employ modern technology for the sake of obtaining information and using various communication channels and techniques
- KU_08 plan and organise working alone and in a team to attain goals pertaining to the research project connected with the BA thesis
- KU_09 present knowledge and communicate in a cohesive, precise and linguistically correct manner in the English language at level C1 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, in particular with respect to the research project connected with the BA thesis
- KU_11 design one’s own development, in particular with respect to the research project connected with the BA thesis
Social competences
Students will be ready to:
- KK_03 value responsibility for one’s own work and respect the work of others, adhering to the professional and ethical norms in various projects and other activities undertaken at work, voluntary services, etc.

- attendance: 3 absences allowed
- participation in discussions
- presentations
- submitting the completed BA thesis meeting the criteria specified in the review form (the thesis is to be coherent, complete, methodologically and formally appropriate)
