This PE course familiarizes students with the importance of conferences in the academic ecosystem and professional contexts and equips them with a set of useful skills both for participating and organising conferences. Topics include:
1. Why conferences matter
2. Navigating the conference as a participant
3. From idea to the presentation
4. Behind the scenes: strategic organization
5. Creating the program and networking
6. Online conferences
7. Social media and outreach
8: Impact, evaluation, and follow-up
The use of so called artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the classroom is governed by the rules set forth in Resolution No. 16 of the Teaching Council for the programs English Studies, English Studies – Linguistics, and English Studies – Literature and Culture of 9 December 2025

AI use: I would prefer you to trust your own intelligence and skills.
If you do not, you may use AI for planning, idea development, and initial research but any and all usage has to be acknowledged and include a list of prompts. Your final submission should show how you have developed and refined the ideas. You may not use AI for the assignments and final project.

Knowledge
Students will have familiarity with:
- K_W05 list the characteristics of English grammar, syntax, phonology, phonetics, morphology and pragmatics on an advanced level
Abilities
Students will be able to:
- K_U03 analyze linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena and draw generalizations on their basis with respect to the social, historical and economic context
- K_U05 collect information from various sources, critically assess a source and usefulness of information; analyze and draw generalizations on the basis of information so obtained
- K_U07 employ modern technology for the sake of obtaining information and using various communication channels and techniques
- K_U09 resent knowledge and communicate in a cohesive, precise and linguistically correct manner in the English language at level C1 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
Social competences
Students will be ready to:
- K_K02 undertake life-long learning and personal development, applying skills and competences to select subjects and projects optimally suiting one’s personal interests
- K_K03 value responsibility for one’s own work and respect the work of others, adhering to the professional and ethical norms in various projects and other activities undertaken at work, voluntary services, etc.
- K_K04 apply the skill to critically assess communicated content to think and act independently in various social situations
- K_K05 function effectively in social and cultural interactions, through various forms and media, thanks to the ability to express oneself in a cohesive and lucid manner
2025/26 PROGRAMME (3rd year students since 2027/28)
Knowledge
Students will have familiarity with advanced structures, lexis and conventions of spoken and written English - K_W07 literature and culture K_W08 linguistics
Abilities
Students will be able to use structures, lexis and language conventions appropriate to the communicative situation (giving an academic presentation, holding a public debate, writing a proposal and CFP) in spoken and written English at the minimum level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - K_U07 literature and culture K_U08 linguistics
Social competences
Students will be ready to critically appraise their knowledge and content obtained from various sources - K_K01 literature and culture and linguistics
Assessment criteria
- carrying out tasks during classes (verification of outcomes: W, U, K)
- written assignments, oral contributions (verification of outcomes: W, U, K)
- a group project completed during the semester (verification of outcomes: W, U, K)
continuous assessment:
- tasks during classes: 0-5
- written assignments and oral contributions: 0-5
- a group project completed during the semester: 0-15
pass: 60% (15 points)
